    Connection, respect, trust and safety are vital qualities in any relationship, and should be the qualities you’re looking for when interviewing therapists. 

     

    It’s completely acceptable and encouraged that you interview several therapists before beginning your journey with one. Professional mental health providers will understand and respect your decision to consider your options before committing to therapy with them. In addition to the first phone call, the first few sessions with a provider are a good time to continue to assess whether it's a "good fit" for you. Goodness of fit varies from person to person, but generally speaking, if you feel it is easy to talk to your provider, that they understand you and your concerns, and they help you feel at ease, it's a promising sign.

    It is strongly suggested that you seek mental health care from a licensed mental health provider. The Seleni Institute has provided a good guide for how to approach the search for a therapist.​
